"Lee Alexander McQueen and Ann Ray: Rendez-Vous"

Rendez-Vous offers a rare glimpse into the life and mind of one of the most renowned fashion designers of our era, Lee Alexander McQueen. Providing unique insight into the creative process of this influential and complex figure, this exhibition features key garments from McQueen's most celebrated fashion collections along with photographer Ann Ray's intimate portraits and behind-the-scenes photographs of McQueen's runway shows, taken over the course of their 13-year friendship.

The exhibition includes 50 garments designed by McQueen and over 60 photographs taken by Ray, the only photographer permitted to document the behind-the-scenes culture of his runway shows and atelier.

$15 / free for members.

Know Before You Go

The exhibition is chronological

We highly recommend you enter through the main doors right behind the Welcome Desk where you see the large logo reading Rendez-Vous. This exhibition is set up to tell the story of a 13-year friendship, so of course it will make the most sense if you start at the beginning.

Lighting in this exhibition is low

We all know how easy it can be to harm our clothing, and these pieces are no different. Even too much exposure to light can cause damage, and in order to preserve these works for years to come, the lights are set pretty low. If you find that you're having trouble reading the texts in the exhibition, pick up a large print label guide to help! You can get one for the entire exhibition at the Welcome Desk, or pick up one gallery's worth of texts at a time within the galleries themselves.

Please do not touch

This, too, is to preserve the works for future generations. Finger oils can do serious damage to fabrics, so please do not touch anything on view.

FAQs

What are your hours? And how much is admission?

The CMA is open six days a week (every day except Monday) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. — with extended hours every Thursday until 8:00 p.m. The last ticket is sold 30 minutes before the galleries close. Admission to Lee Alexander McQueen & Ann Ray: Rendez-Vous is $15 or less. For full details, see the hours and admission page.

What does my $15 get me?

Your admission to Lee Alexander McQueen & Ann Ray: Rendez-Vous also includes admission to all other CMA galleries. We encourage you to explore the CMA Collection, other exhibitions, and the Cross Hatch.

Do I need to buy advance tickets? How do they work?

Walk-up tickets are also available, so you do not have to purchase in advance. Advance tickets simply secure access to the galleries at a particular day and time period and expedite the check-in process on crowded days.

Advance tickets are restricted to the time slot you select. They are good for admission at any time during that window on the day for which they were purchased. If you need to reschedule or get a refund on your tickets, that's no problem! Email our visitor experience associates at info@columbiamuseum.org or call 803-779-2810.

Admission is free for children 6 and under. They will not need advance tickets. We will add them to your admission when you check in.

What about First Thursdays?

The CMA galleries are open and free for First Thursdays on Main from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Advance tickets are not available for these days. The galleries will be open on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to this exhibition’s popularity, there may be a wait to enter. Sponsored by Dominion Energy.
