The Write Around Series: Lisa Hammond and Derek Berry

Join poets Lisa Hammond and Derek Berry as they share new poetry sparked by CMA collection themes and individual works of art. The Write Around Series, a program hosted by CMA Writer-in-Residence Ray McManus, features poetry and prose inspired by art on view in the museum.

Hammond is the author of two chapbooks, Goddess Suite (Small Fires Press, 2018) and Moving House (Texas Review Press, 2007), which won the Robert Phillips Poetry Chapbook Prize. Her poems have appeared in Tar River Poetry, Southern Poetry Review, Calyx, Birmingham Poetry Review, The South Carolina Review, English Journal, storySouth, North Carolina Literary Review, and Literary Mama, among others. She is a professor of English at the University of South Carolina Lancaster.

Berry is the author of the novel Heathens and Liars of Lickskillet County as well as three poetry chapbooks: Skinny Dipping with Strangers, Glitter Husk, and Buggery, winner of the BOOM Chapbook Prize with Bateau Press. Berry’s poems and short stories can be found in Beloit Poetry Journal, ANMLY, Raleigh Review, Barely South Review, BOAAT Journal, and many others. Berry is the recipient of Broad River Prize for Prose, Emrys Poetry Prize, and KAKALAK Poetry Award, among other honors.
