Virtual Screening: The Black Power Mixtape 1967–1975

Wednesday
July 15, 2020
6:30 pm-9:00 pm

In connection to Black Is Beautiful: The Photography of Kwame Brathwaite, enjoy an online screening of The Black Power Mixtape 1967–1975 with an introduction and post-film Q&A discussion led by members of Columbia SC 63: Our Story Matters and the UofSC Civil Rights Center for History and Research. Free.

The Black Power Mixtape 1967–1975 (2011) highlights long-lost footage of the Black Power movement shot by Swedish journalists in the U.S. This extraordinary documentary features activists, artists, and leaders central to the movement including Angela Davis, Bobby Seale, Huey P. Newton, and Eldridge Cleaver, and includes musical direction from Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Om'Mas Keith.

The stream is hosted on Kast, a free watch party service available for Google Chrome browsers or via a free desktop application for Mac and PC computers. You can download the app here.
