Wednesday
March 15, 2023
11:00 am-12:00 pm
Join us for the next ArtBreak to hear from Alice Sebrell, director of preservation for the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center in Asheville, NC. Her presentation explores the extraordinary history and impact of Black Mountain College on ideas about education, art, and experimental communities during its time and into the present. Inspired by the work and artists in Our Own Work, Our Own Way: Ascendant Women Artists in the Johnson Collection, Sebrell pays particular attention to some of the women of Black Mountain College.
A native of Charlotte, NC, Sebrell earned her BFA from the University of Delaware and her MFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has written and spoken about Black Mountain College for multiple publications and gatherings and has curated many exhibitions during her time at the museum.
ArtBreak is a program that looks at art through a different lens. Each session features a speaker who gives insight into their worldview and expertise by sharing their interpretation of works of art at the CMA.
