Signature Events

The Contemporaries is dedicated to engaging both young professionals and the young-at-heart while promoting the museum and community as a whole.

In addition to our love of art and the community, we know how to have a good time! The Contemporaries hosts a variety of educational events and art-themed parties throughout the year, and we hope you will take advantage of them. Don't miss out on our incredible signature events hosted throughout the year:

101 Series

Fun meets education.

Held throughout the year, the Contemporaries 101 series explores culture both within the museum and in the greater community. Programming is centered around a variety of art mediums such as modern theater, music appreciation, photography, and ceramics, but has been expanded to include other fun components such as wine tasting and art collecting.


O'zapft is!

Did you know there are 400,000 South Carolina residents that claim German heritage? Oktoberfest is held as a membership drive in September and celebrates the kick-off of fall in the Capital City. It is a great way to wind down after a hot summer with 300 of your closest friends and enjoy an evening of live music, bratwursts, and beer on Boyd Plaza. Held every September.

Annual Ball

Supporting the arts with one famously hot party.

The Contemporaries present an annual ball that continues to be the hottest event at the coolest place in town. The themed evening gala fuses elements of classic Contemporaries' soirees with new and exciting additions each year. All proceeds from the event benefit the Contemporaries Art Acquisition Fund to continue the success in participating in acquisition of pieces such as those most recently acquired from Dale Chihuly, George Tooker, and Henry Mandell. Held every February.

Oyster Roast

A shuckin’ good time.

One of our most popular signature events drawing over 400 guests, the oyster roast is a spring membership drive. Celebrate the beginning of warmer, sunny weather with an evening on Boyd Plaza listening to live music while enjoying oysters and beer with your friends. Held every April.
