Artists on Staff: Khaliya Davis
Hello, my name is Khaliya Davis. I’m a gallery attendant at the Columbia Museum of Art. My medium of choice is a combination of traditional and digital art. I started doing more digitally inspired art when I studied illustration and wanted to shape my art around storytelling.
Storytelling has always been a huge part of my upbringing and one of my earliest memories of when I began creating. Even as an adult, telling my story and hearing stories of others is what inspires me to continue to create. I want our stories to live on when we are no longer around, so I try to capture those memories in my drawings to bring the story to life. From the portrait of my nephew smiling to the image of a couch in my childhood home that’s been there longer than I’ve been alive, I want to say: 'Memories are fleeting, but records last forever.
