The Carnival of the Animals

March 3 - March 21, 2017

The culmination of music, art and poetry make the SC Philharmonic’s Carnival of the Animals a unique and meaningful project for young students throughout our region.

There's the majestic lion, the braying mules, the dancing elephant and the bouncy kangaroos. Everyone is invited to this special exhibit featuring the South Carolina Philharmonic and artwork from students throughout the Midlands.

The Carnival of the Animals, by Camille Saint-Saëns, is a clever and well-known musical work where instruments of the orchestra emulate the sounds of animals. From flutes fluttering like birds and double basses lumbering like elephants, fourteen animal sounds are imitated by instruments in this exciting and charming orchestral work. In addition to the music, this work accompanies artwork created by students in the community. The artwork is displayed through a projector, and poetry about each animal is read aloud. The culmination of music, art and poetry make the SC Philharmonic’s Carnival of the Animals a unique and meaningful project for young students throughout our region.
