The Friends of African American Art and Culture join with Valaida Fullwood, creator of The Soul of Philanthropy, to celebrate the important role of collecting and sharing art in preserving African-American culture. The Soul of Philanthropy, on view at the Richland Library February 10 – May 6, 2018, is a tribute to the history of African-American philanthropy.
The CMA event will feature Fullwood, art collector Marjorie Hammock, and storyteller Darion McCloud talking about their roles in sharing and passing on African-American culture. The event is inspired by both the exhibition and the book Giving Back: A Tribute to Generations of African American Philanthropists by Fullwood and photographer Charles W. Thomas, Jr. Fullwood will be on hand for a book signing prior to the event. Art collectors, aspiring art collectors, artists, photographers, culture keepers, and philanthropists are encouraged to attend.
