Art Class: Threads of Society
Saturdays, June 6, 13, and 20 | 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Inspired by featured exhibition Rodney McMillian: A Son of the Soil, this three-part, textile-based class invites participants to explore personal and historical narratives through stitched art. Experiment with fabric, thread, and mixed materials to create works that reflect the intersection of memory, identity, and expression. Previous hand-sewing experience is suggested but not required. Ages 15 and up. All materials and equipment provided. Taught by artist Shayna Slicer.

Shayna Slicer is a textile artist who specializes in fiber art and handmade goods. She hosts workshops and live chainstitch events and pop-ups across Columbia. She has been in love with fiber arts since she was a little kid learning to sew with her grandma. After years of wanting to take the dive, she was finally inspired in 2025 to turn her passion into a career that brings her joy. She enjoys supporting other artists. She hosts fundraisers and donates products/services to benefit local organizations.
