Art Class: Adaptive Zine-Making
Thursdays, June 11, 18, and 25 | 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Explore zine-making and DIY publishing in this three-part class. Zines can be anything from one folded sheet of paper to tiny, handmade books. Notorious for breaking boundaries and proliferating punk-art ideologies, zines are a fun and flexible opportunity to share work with the world, from painting, photos, and collage to poetry, short essays, and even instructional manuals. Through writing and crafting, participants create one-of-a-kind zines and learn how to self-publish with supplies from around their homes, schools, or offices. Ages 13 and up. All supplies and equipment provided. Taught by artist Eden Prime.
$80 / $64 for members. Members get priority registration through Wednesday, April 8. Join today!
Eden Prime is a multimedia artist and writer from Columbia. They hold a bachelor's in philosophy and a master's in journalism from the University of South Carolina. While in graduate school, Prime fell in love with zines as a form of citizen journalism and the political history of zine-making as an act of resistance to corporate publishing authority. Their visual art and installation have found a home in local WONDER exhibitions at Gemini Arts and the Boyd Innovation Center. Their creative written work is published in zines and small-batch publications such as Historic Columbia's Writing in the Queer Archive (2023) and experimental academic anthology (Out)Rooted (Virginia Tech, 2025).
