The CMA is undergoing extensive renovations to provide more galleries, more studios, more spaces for programs, and a new entrance on Main Street. This $5 million project will yield over 15,000 square feet of renovated space.
On the first floor, you'll see a new studio, a new interactive education gallery, and a brand new Main Street entrance. The CMA Shop will be renovated, and program spaces will be upgraded. We're getting some new office spaces for staff, too.
On the second floor, you'll see new galleries, a catering kitchen, and a huge revamped program space.
Will the building get larger?
It won’t. When we moved into this building back in 1998, we planned ahead for growth. We have areas within the building that are not currently finished or that are not set up for public use that are now being renovated to create more dynamic spaces and galleries.
Is the museum open?
Yes! The CMA will remain open throughout the entirety of renovations with a full schedule of exhibitions and programs.
Will this affect my visit?
Some sections of the museum will close temporarily throughout the process. Read more here to learn what’s going on right now.
Will admission change during renovations?
Yes! Admission is reduced to half price throughout the process of renovations.
|Children (6 and under)
Does not apply to groups.
We are also offering free admission on the second Sunday of the month throughout the process (including featured exhibitions).
Renovation pricing is partially funded through the Karen Brosius National Medal Fund. Free admission on second Sundays sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
Who is paying for this?
A generous group of donors. The CMA conducted a five-year capital campaign that included the funds for this project. We are very grateful for the investment these donors have made in our museum and look forward to providing our community with more art, more programs, more ideas to explore, and more opportunities to connect with people and ideas from around the corner and around the world.
