Columbia, S.C. - The Columbia Museum of Art announces Brandolyn Thomas Pinkston and Nathaniel A. Barber as new members of its Government Relations Advisory Committee. Pinkston is currently the president of the Museum's membership affiliate group, Friends of African American Art and Culture. Barber currently works in the financial sector and is a senior vice president at South Carolina Bank and Trust in Columbia, S.C.
Pinkston is the former administrator of the S.C. Department of Consumer Affairs where she used her position to improve the quality of life for the people of South Carolina. From 1996 to 1999, she served as president of the National Consumers League in Washington, D.C., leading the organization through its centennial celebration in 1999. In 2010, Pinkston was an honoree on the AT&T African American Calendar for her service to South Carolina. She now devotes her time to advocating for the arts.
Barber has been active on the boards of the Columbia Museum of Art, the South Columbia Development Corporation, the Richland Library, the Columbia Housing Development Corporation, and the Eau Claire Development Corporation among others, helping to raise the quality of life for all of Columbia's residents. He received degrees from the University of South Carolina and Indiana University. Pinkston's and Barber's experience and love of the arts make them valued additions to the committee.
The Columbia Museum of Art formed a committee to keep city and county governments abreast of the Museum's community accessibility, education, and tourism efforts. The Board of Trustees has identified government relations as a key part in the strategic direction for the Museum, as it receives significant support from both Richland County and the City of Columbia. In recognition of this support and the need to further our relationships with public officials statewide, the Board directed staff to assemble a volunteer committee to guide the Museum in its communication efforts with public officials.
