The Columbia Museum of Art provides many excellent opportunities for art education in South Carolina. Providing community outreach programs for children is an important part of the Museum's mission. The Columbia Museum of Art has worked with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Midlands through an after school partnership since 2002. The Museum provides outreach to six Boys and Girls Club sites throughout the Columbia area and works with the students during the school year and summer to provide quality art instruction that meets the Clubs' national curriculum standards. Beginning in the fall of 2006, the Museum provides instructor training in standards-based lessons for all Boys and Girls Clubs staff members free of charge.
