The Artist Salon Series features gallery talks, led by working artists, about a wide range of subjects, topics and disciplines. For many years, Columbia resident Laura Spong has been considered one of the best non-objective painters. Recently, she showcased her work around South Carolina with four solo exhibitions and several group shows, including a retrospective at the USC McMaster Gallery. "I paint because I love the process of painting. To me, it’s exciting to throw a lot of paint on a clean canvas and then seek to solve the problem of creating order out of chaos. I like that with non-objective work, nothing is decided for you – no color, no design, no subject matter; the search is wide open."
