Richard Buckner LIVE!Happy Hour at 7:00 p.m. | Concert at 8:00 p.m. Richard Buckner LIVE!
The CMA, in collaboration with The Whig, hosts a concert by critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Richard Buckner. The performance will be an evening to remember as Buckner plays selections from his latest release, Surrounded, as well as other material from the influential artist.

American musician Buckner's work over the past two decades explores alt-country, electric folk, and acoustic rock with spacious, hauntingly poised compositions. Many artists, such as Justin Vernon from Bon Iver, cite him as a major influence on their art. He began his recording career in 1994 with Bloomed followed by 11 other releases to date. Buckner had in recent albums eschewed his initial acoustic approach, displaying an increasing interest in more abstract music styles, until reintegrating his early techniques on Our Blood in 2011. In the time since Our Blood was released and after a few long tours, Buckner attempted to work on writing short stories, but found himself drawn back into the music room. The evidence of his time in the writer's chair is clear in the dense, lovely prose of Surrounded.

Kress Anniversary Lecture SeriesNoonKress Anniversary Lecture Series
The CMA is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first Kress gift of Renaissance, Baroque and 18th-century art, which established the foundation of the Museum’s Collection. The Kress Anniversary Lecture Series invites four scholars to the Museum to deliver lectures on topics that highlight our Kress Collection through their particular expertise in their field. Once a month, from May through August, an expert lecturer will broaden our understanding and appreciation of the Collection.

This lecture will feature Fulvia Zaninelli, researcher for the Kress Provenance Research Project at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Zaninelli's research focuses on the activities of Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi, Samuel Kress's principal art dealer. Zaninelli’s presentation examines her work in the field of provenance research.

Film: Women Artists: The Other Side of the PictureNoonFilm: Women Artists: The Other Side of the Picture
Where are the works of the great women artists? Why are there so few represented in museums? In this provocative program, respected artists such as Doris McCarthy, Judy Chicago, Joyce Weiland, and Jane Ash Poitras, in combination with curators, art historians, and The Guerrilla Girls, the "terrorists" of the art world, discuss the dearth of women’s artwork in major galleries and examine the poignant social history of women in the fine arts—a story of suppression, marginalization, and omission. The efforts of the National Museum of Women in the Arts is spotlighted to balance that one sided pictures of artist achievements.
