Kress Anniversary Lecture SeriesNoonKress Anniversary Lecture Series
The CMA is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first Kress gift of Renaissance, Baroque and 18th-century art, which established the foundation of the Museum's collection. The Kress Anniversary Lecture Series invites four scholars to the Museum this year to deliver talks lectures on topics that highlight our Kress Collection through their particular expertise in their field. Once a month, from May through August, an expert lecturer will broaden our understanding and appreciation of the Collection.

This lecture will feature Elise Effmann Clifford, head of paintings conservation at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Clifford’s lecture, “View of the Molo by Canaletto: The Story of a Reattribution,” examines the questioned attribution of the CMA's painting—View of the Molo by Canaletto—and the technical findings establishing the painting as a prime example of the artist’s early style. In addition, she discusses Canaletto’s technique in the context of Venetian view painting in the first half of the 18th century.
