I've always been a nerd for history and an "artophile," so the study of Art History seemed like a natural choice for me when choosing my major in 2007. After four years of studying the cultural ramifications of major artworks and movements, I felt pretty confident about the history of art... But what about the creation of art? When the Columbia Museum of Art and I were awarded a Kress Interpretive Fellowship, I was one step closer to answering this vital question and educating both myself and our visitors on the evolution of artistic techniques, materials, and processes. Combining independent research with painting classes at USC, I've learned that any of us can make paint-either from dirt in the backyard or spices from your kitchen cupboard.
